Trinidad & Tobago Vegan Food Guide

Although this beautiful twin island of Trinidad & Tobago, located in the Caribbean, may not have many dedicated vegan restaurants or food outlets, most of them have options for vegans. You'll just need to specify your food preferences to them to ensure you select a meal that is in harmony with your vegan lifestyle. Below I'm going to list a couple of the vegan food options here in Trinidad & Tobago that I've experienced during my time back here.

The Youthful Vegan
This is the only strictly vegan restaurant that I know about here in Trinidad. Besides being a rare cuisine on the island, thier delicious food and warm customer service helps them to stand out even more. Every vegan visiting Trinidad & Tobago must visit The Youthful Vegan. Their menu varies daily giving you new and exciting options to choose from every time you visit.

Local Restaurants
Most local cuisines offer a variety of simple vegan options which will be easy to identify.

Doubles
Doubles is a very popular local East Indian delicacy here in Trinidad & Tobago that is vegan. Although not intentionally vegan, when you taste it, you're going to be so happy that it is vegan. Doubles is a sandwich made with two bara (flat fried bread) filled with channa (curried chick peas). If ever in Trinidad & Tobago you definitely need to try this delicious street food.

Saheena
Saheena is another popular local East Indian delicacy that tastes delicious. The two main ingredients to make saheena are dasheen plant and split peas powder. This street food is usually sold from the same vender you'll get your doubles from.

Fresh Fruits & Vegetables

In Trinidad & Tobago you can always find fresh fruits and vegetables in the countless number of local markets. There are so many delicious home cooked meals you can make with fresh produce from the island.

Chinese Food

Chinese restaurants are very popular here in Trinidad & Tobago making it easily accessible when your in the mood to order takeout. Vegans have delicious varieties of rice, vegetables, mushrooms and tofu. When ordering your fried rice be sure to specify no eggs.

Royal Castle
Although this is a popular local fried chicken restaurant chain, there is 1 option for vegans on their menu and it's the bean burger combo which includes the bean burger together with fries and a drink.

Burger Food Carts
At local events and also during the evening into night period you will almost always find people selling burgers in the towns and most of them offer soy burgers. There are a couple things to note before ordering though. Ensure there is a dedicated grill/section for cooking the soy burger, that they use separate utensils and tell them no white sauce.

Vegan Food For Thought

Birth is the natural beginning of a living being's journey here on this earth and death, which is the end of that journey, should be natural as well.

Why does man think they have the authority to end the life of another living being? Maybe for greed, or power or just out of hatred and wickedness.

This world does not have to be filled with so much evil. We need stop teaching our children evil and let thier natural emotions of love, compassion, happiness and peace prevail.

Going vegan is the beginning of true love. Love for yourself and all living beings overflow from a vegan's heart. Only after the entire world has joined the vegan movement will we live in an ideal world. A world with the abundance of love, peace and harmony.

Prepare for success.

Your mind is the only thing that's keeping you back from achieving your goals and living the life that you've always dreamt of. The only restrictions in your life are the ones you've created for yourself. You must take charge of your thinking and know that you can achieve anything you put your mind to. You are the solution to all your problems that's keeping you back from achieving greatness and living your best life now. Happiness and success starts from within you.

Once your mind is in alignment with what you want to achieve, you must act in faith. Work towards your goal with passion and commitment and you will achieve it. Never give up. You can achieve it and you will achieve it as long as you persevere through whatever strengthening events you encounter. I use the phrase "strengthening events" instead of obstacles because that's how I choose to look at it. I see it as an opportunity for me to grow and prepare myself for the achievement of my goal. All the best to you and don't hold yourself back. Go for it, you are destined for greatness

Be more aware of the present. Project your future.

The title above is from an email I received last night from a friend of mine, Dillon Douglas, who is a young aspiring motivational speaker.

The email surrounds the importance of being mindful of the seeds we sow as this will impact what kind of fruits we'll harvest in the future. All that we do now, will have an impact on our future one way or the other.

We must be conscious of our actions in the present so that we can achieve our desired outcome in the future. Search within yourself and ask yourself "Are my current actions shaping the future that I want?" There may be things you need to start doing or pay more attention to and there also may be things you need to cut out. That will be determined upon the completion of your self analysis.
